Barbara Reynolds

Barbara serves her church faithfully in all levels. She is a presbyter, trustee, council member, UCW member, and ministry with children representative at her home church. A presbyter since 1991, she chaired presbytery and served on its executive (7 years) and various committees including Education & Students (4 years) and Pastoral Relations (9 years, 3 as co-chair). A member of Conference Executive for five years, she served on several committees including as chair of the internship Committee (3 years). She has served on three General Council bodies: the Canadian Forces Chaplaincy Committee, the Task Force on Conference Records and the Judicial Committee. She was a commissioner to two General Councils (2003 Wolfville, 2006 Thunder Bay), worked with the host for the 2009 Kelowna General Council and co-chaired the local arrangements committee for the 2012 Ottawa General Council.
 
A bilingual public servant with strong organizational, administrative and procedural skills, Barbara worked with Canadian parliamentarians for 35 years in various capacities before her retirement in 2009. Since then, the Senate has asked her to undertake numerous assignments, including most recently as a mentor for new staff. Trained as a sociologist, she was a researcher, director of legislative visits and coordinator of professional development programs for legislators and their staff. For 15 years, she served as adviser to Canadian parliamentarians at international meetings and travelled to more than 40 countries in all parts of the world. In 2002, she received the Speaker’s Award of Excellence, the highest honour for staff in the Senate.
