Biography of Linda Suddaby

Nominee for General Council Commissioner 2018

As a lifelong member of the United Church, I believe very strongly that we are called to "act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God" My passions include rural ministry, Mission & Service and my family

At my small rural church, I am currently organist, a trustee, the M&S Enthusiast, and Presbytery Representative. I am also the current Council Chair in our rural Cooperative as well as Chair of the Cooperative's Worship Committee. At the Presbytery Level, I have served as Chair of both the Stewardship and Christian Development Committees and for two years was Chair of Seaway Valley Presbytery. In that position, I gained a better understanding of the polity and workings of the courts of our United Church. I currently serve on the Pastoral Relations Committee.

I am a retired elementary teacher but have continued to do private tutoring. My husband (deceased) and I raised two wonderful sons who have blessed me with two caring 'daughters' and four wonderful grandchildren. Faith, family, and friends are the foundations of my life.

One important thing that l have learned is that the only constant in life is change.  Driven by economics and an evolving societ, our United Church must change and I have made it a point to be knowledgeable and involved in the process The General Council of 2018 will be making some key decisions about the future workings of the United Church of Canada. I would welcome the opportunity to speak for rural ministry and m|55|ons when General Council convenes in Oshawa in 2018.
