Fred is a lay Presbyter from Montreal West United Church where he currently serves a Chair of Trustees. He is also currently the Chair of the Administration and Finance Committee of Quebec Presbytery and on its Finance and Exten5ion Board and various trusts and was Presbytery Secretary 2001-8. He has also served as Commissioner to the General Councils in 2003, 2006, 2009 and Corner Brook (2015). For seven years (2006-2013) he served at the national level as board member of the United Church of Canada Foundation , including four years as Chair during which time he was instrumental in negotiating and building the consensus necessary to re-cast the Foundation's relationship with the General Council Office in a new model of transparency and collaborative partnership.
 
Fred's professional career over 35 years was as a lawyer involved in corporate and commercial law, particularly in complex national and international business transactions and agreements and he is highly fluent in both French and English. He retired at the end of 2012 from a prominent national law firm, but remains heavily involved in United Church activities as above, and also in the community on the Board of a major rehabilitation centre for those, particularly children, with hearing or visual Impairment (MAB-Mackay in Montreal) and also as President and director of a small but prominent contemporary dance company (Compagnie Flak/ José Navas).
