JOB POSTING FOR CAMPUS MINISTER

The Bishop’s University/Champlain Regional College Campus Ministry Committee is seeking a full-time Campus Minister for Bishop’s University and Champlain Regional College. The University and College share a campus situated in the bilingual community of Lennoxville (population 5,800), a borough of the city of Sherbrooke (population 154,600), Quebec, located about 150 km southeast of Montreal. The Eastern Townships region is known for offering a welcoming atmosphere, exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities, and a great quality of life.

The Campus Minister serves both Bishop’s University and Champlain Regional College,

providing pastoral services to all members of the campus community. The Campus Minister is expected to foster faith development, spirituality and social justice within a multi-faith environment, respecting and supporting the practices and traditions of all faiths. Campus Ministry is supported by the Anglican, United and Presbyterian Church traditions and serves people of all faiths.

St. Mark’s Chapel is an historic chapel that was consecrated in 1857 as an Anglican place of worship. Carefully maintained and beautifully preserved, St. Mark’s Chapel is now an ecumenical chapel serving the Bishop’s University and Champlain College community with a congregation from various denominational church backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

  • Exercise pastoral duties for Bishop’s University and Champlain College within a multi-faith environment, respecting and supporting the practices and traditions of all faiths
  • Spiritual leader to St. Mark’s Ecumenical Chapel, leading the regular chapel services as well as other events such as weddings, funerals, Convocation services, and Remembrance Day services.
  • Staff advisor to the Bishop’s/Champlain World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Student Refugee Program (SRP), actively assisting in the integration of newly arrived, sponsored refugee students into Canadian and Quebec society
  • Foster public education and advocacy roles that the Student Refugee Program plays with regard to refugee protection issues, both within the Student Refugee Program Committee itself and in the larger campus community
  • Be a member of the Student Services Committees of both Bishop’s University and Champlain College, providing help to students concerning mental health, relationships, and referrals to appropriate services

Qualifications required:

  • Ordained minister in good standing within your professional body
  • Master’s of Divinity or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years ministerial experience
  • Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent
  • Bilingual in English and French, both written and oral
  • Good motivational and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong computer and social media skills
  • Commitment to interfaith and ecumenical relationships through cooperation and diverse activities
  • Experience with refugee sponsorship would be an asset

 

The Campus Minister position is a full-time position with remuneration according to experience.
