Calgary Presbytery expresses support and solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters, their friends and families, in the wake of the Quebec City massacre

February 1, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The United Church, Calgary Presbytery, expresses our support and solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters, their friends and families, as we contemplate the Quebec City massacre.

We stand in opposition to all acts of violence and oppression perpetuated by ignorant individuals motivated by racism, hate and xenophobia.  We mourn the death of six citizens who were at prayer, seeking connection with God, who now weeps and mourns with us all.

There are many paths to God, and we celebrate the diversity of the many expressions of faith observed by the people of Canada, including our Muslim sisters and brothers.  May God bless and keep us all.

Rev Jope Langejans, Chair of Calgary Presbytery, The United Church of Canada
